Dress Code

Students are Expected to Maintain Proper Dress Code as Described Below:

If the weather is cold, wearing warmups for the beginning of a class is permissible with the instructor's approval; keeping in mind that all warmups must be removed after the first few combinations.

Students are asked to bring a small personal bag to each class with their dance shoes for that evening and a labeled water bottle in the bag (no Dunkin’ Donuts cups). Please place street shoes in this bag upon arrival.

 Girls Dress Requirements

  • Light pink leotard (skirts allowed if attached to leotard), light pink tights, pink leather ballet slippers with elastics knotted and then trimmed.

    Please secure hair away from the face.

  • Light pink leotard (skirts allowed if attached to leotard), light pink tights.

    Ballet: pink leather ballet slippers with elastics knotted and then trimmed.

    Tap: black patent leather tap shoes with black elastic, velcro, or snaps (No laces or ribbons.

    Please secure hair away from the face.

  • Black leotard (skirts allowed if attached to leotard), pink tights.

    Ballet: pink leather ballet slippers with elastics knotted and then trimmed.

    Tap: Bloch tan Techno Taps with buckle (S0302).

    Hair in a bun or secured away from the face and up off the neck.

  • Black leotard (no halters or skirts), pink tights.

    Ballet: pink leather split-sole ballet slippers with elastics knotted then trimmed. Hair in a bun.

    Tap: Bloch tan Techno Taps with buckle (S0302).

    Jazz: Bloch Tan Super Jazz Shoes (#401).

    Modern: bare feet.

    Plain black formfitting shorts only allowed for jazz, tap, and modern.

    Hair secured away from the face and neck for all other classes.

  • Black leotard (no halters), pink tights.

    Ballet: pink leather split-sole ballet slippers with elastics knotted then trimmed. Pointe shoes as appropriate. Hair in a bun.

    Pointe Only: ballet skirts allowed.

    Tap: Bloch black Respect tap shoes (S0361) (MEMDC requires Bloch “Jason Samuels Smith” which may be worn for tap class instead of the dress code shoe).

    Jazz: Capezio Caramel E-Series (#EJ2), Adv. I, II, III also purchase the Bloch Women’s Splitflex 2.5” Heel Character Shoe in Tan (S0390L).

    Modern, Lyrical, Contemporary: bare feet.

    Plain black formfitting shorts only allowed for jazz, tap, lyrical/contemporary, and modern.

    Hair secured away from the face and neck for all other classes.

  • Baggy, comfortable clothing.

    Please no leotards and tights.

    No jeans or jewelry.

    Any all black low-rise sneaker.

    Hair - no code.

    Hip Hop V: all white Nike Court Vision Low sneaker.

  • Please wear formfitting dance attire in any color or style.

    No jewelry.

    Hair secured away from the face and neck.

    Bare feet.

 Boys Dress Requirements

  • Black shorts, pants, or ballet tights with a fitted white t-shirt.

    Ballet: black leather ballet slippers.

    Tap: Capezio black oxford (CG19).

    Jazz: Capezio or Bloch black gore boots.

  • Ballet: black ballet tights or bike shorts with a fitted black or white t-shirt and dance belt. Black canvas or leather ballet slippers.

    All other classes: Black shorts, jazz pants, or tights with a fitted black or white t-shirt.

    Tap: Bloch black Respect tap shoe (S0361).

    Jazz: Capezio Black E-Series (#EJ2).

    Modern, Lyrical, Contemporary: bare feet.

  • Baggy, comfortable clothing.

    No Jeans.
